If it’s not too late and he qualifies, apply for the community service scholarship. It’s stackable.
That makes your Buffalo story that you share - even more impressive.
I didn’t know about the alternative acceptances - but I know your student wasn’t the only one there at Buffalo with those type acceptances. I think most schools have that…at least most, if not all, large publics.
And people fail to recognize that…but they won’t be alone…if it’s at x school instead of Tulane.
Of course, there may be Tulane like schools that make budget for OP.
And I assume you don’t qualify for this?

This says one applies for this at the time of admission application. But might be worth a call.
The Community Service Fellowship is four-year scholarship designed to promote responsible and reciprocal community engagement and service and to recognize students with an outstanding record of service and leadership in high school. The program strives to create opportunities for Community Service Fellows to engage in responsible community service efforts, learn how to lead with equity and inclusion, understand the context of community engagement in New Orleans, and build relationships with the New Orleans community. The program also promotes on-campus leadership opportunities and an understanding of the differences between positive examples of community engagement and problematic examples of community engagement. Student apply for this fellowship while they are applying for admission.
This is a need based award for students whose families earn $75,000 a year of less. If this applies to the OP, that works. Family wrote this…We are an upper middle class family so probably won’t qualify for much aid based on CSS or FAFSA
There are a number of other scholarships on the Tulane website but the deadline for those was December 5.
But it never hurts to ask…if they might allow a submission later.
I am fully aware of the limits of the no loan assistance (NOLA) scholarship at Tulane. However, I do not know the OP’s financial situation.Things change. And as stated above, I assumed they didn’t qualify for that one (then again, there are many millionaires who manage to look “poor” on taxes!!) And lets not forget the poster from long ago who claimed to be “dirt poor” and who’s kids scored big time in admissions and finances, yet clearly was not.
The community service award had in previous years been available to apply until mid January.
Seems they have modified it.
And, if the OP’s child is a desired candidate and would be an excellent candidate down the community service fellowship, email Ben Brubaker and see if there is any way to apply at this time. Couldn’t hurt.
I could be mistaken, but I took the OP by @Cneely76 where they mentioned he had applied for the competitive scholarships that they meant the application based scholarships at Tulane. If so, he may just be waiting to find out more about those… fingers crossed!
It looks like the highest awards Tulane mentions that do not require an additional application are 32,000. Tulane may be willing to expand to that amount, since the OP’s son was offered 25,000. Can’t hurt to ask!
Most universities are closed until after the new year, so it may not be possible to hear back unil early January.
Thanks for the suggestions. He has applied for both the Stamps, Deans’ Honor Scholarship & Paul Tulane Award and I believe he has a strong submission.
These are Tulane’s signature full-tuition scholarships recognizing outstanding students across all academic areas of interest. Winners are notified in late February. They are competitive and based on academics and leadership. Also he had to complete an additional essay and project.
Some of the full tuition and full ride scholarships are not released until around February. Some have required interviews, some don’t. (Cross posted with the OP).
My son had the Dean’s Honor scholarship. The Stamps and Paul Tulane weren’t available back then. Will your son qualify for a National Merit additional scholarship? That is also stackable, but isn’t a lot of $ compared to what you are looking for.
And it sounds like your son loves the school. Any school has pluses and minuses. The school is not “shabby”. My s purposely chose to live not in the honors dorm but in Monroe (which could use a face lift) because he wanted the “full college experience!!” He met his now wife there. I consider that a plus
*eta: the Stamps is a full ride. The DHS and Paul Tulane are full tuition.
Good luck as you await decisions regarding additional merit. The process is stressful and hopefully your son gets excited about his other options as well.
He is not thinking about this right now, but a full ride to your state school is a huge perk when it comes to grad school applications.
Best wishes!
Does this stack with financial aid ?
Unless anything has changed, some of their scholarships stack. But if you get a higher
Merit scholarship it replaces a lower one.
My student has a very, very generous merit scholarship at Tulane. My student was first offered early action admission, then was offered a nice merit scholarship of around $25k, then it was increased to around $40k around Jan/Feb, and then in early March or so as he was making decisions, and received other great news, received notice he had been awarded a very, ver generous scholarship covering all tuition plus some other perks. The moral of the story is: sometimes good things come to those who wait.
Can you provide the details of the scholarship and also how it was increased from 24K to 40K ? We are trying to get financial aid.Any details will help.
Didn’t your daughter apply ED? The above poster’s student was admitted EA, and an increased offer was likely prior to the student’s accepting the offer. The competitive scholarships are announced later, so I am wondering if this might have been a DHS or similar scholarship.
Yes. She did ED and got a merit scholarship but the above poster said it was increased from 25 to 40k. Want to know how the student got that. Was that financial aid? Assuming it was financial aid.
Probably through Admissions the merit was increased as an incentive to commit to the school.
Financial Aid is typically very formulaic - it kicks out a number and that’s what the package is (no real room to negotiate).
Right. Merit aid is different from financial aid. People can ask for a financial aid review (professional judgment) for special circumstance. Schools can increase merit aid to cherry pick and entice students they want, to come.
