How to decide between multiple good options?

I completely forgot about the ones who did (usually paid) internships on campus! B/c they were mostly research positions through their major department, from my perspective they just happened as part of school.

Most would simply refer to this arrangement as a job, not an internship. The distinction in the real world is not important, because employers will evaluate all types of work experiences. In the context of this discussion though, it’s important for the OP and their student not to get too hung up on semantics. Good, major relevant, campus jobs will be available at every school, even the most remote.

The new student days are a good idea — maybe that will help her look forward.

I think those may help her develop a gut feel for which one she likes best. It may not be the same one that you’d choose either. After one admitted students day, we thought the school we were at had come back in interest and that it was 50-50 at that point. We asked our son how he felt and the same visit had completed ruled that one out for him.
