How to Establish Instate Residency in OH (previously was - Why I got rejected)

Hi everyone, it’s me again

I am currently facing challenges with my residency status at Ohio State University (OSU). While I’ve applied to the University of Cincinnati and Wright State University, and even earned a spot in an honor society along with a amount of scholarships, both options do not provide housing and require me to leave Columbus. This is difficult for me as I take care of my mom. I can not leave her alone bc she can’t be home alone. We all have passports but I’m the one who speaks English so I need to stay close to my family

OSU is my only viable option at this time. Does anyone have tips on how to secure residency? I meet all the requirements, but they are not reviewing my situation under special circumstances.

I would greatly appreciate any advice you can offer.

At the moment, I am taking a semester off and working full time.

Well if you qualify then at some point you’ll secure residency.

Did Wright State and U Cincy have you on resident tuition?

I am currently classified as an in-state student at these schools, but OSU is not recognizing my status. I would like to meet with someone in person to discuss this issue and present my documents. It seems impossible to resolve this at osu.

Isn’t there a regular poster on cc who works professionally with students who are in academic suspension, etc? I know this isn’t the same situation, but they might have some thoughts – but right now I can’t remember their name. Does anyone else know who I am thinking of and want to tag them for the OP?

I don’t have any information but I just want to sent you a :hugs: hug. You’re dealing with A LOT at the moment and it must all feel discouraging and the general environment scary or hostile, while you have to navigate a difficult situation on your own, as a teenager. :hugs: I’m sorry I can’t help at this point but please know we’re rooting for you. Hopefully the “lawyers for OSU students” group comes through for you.

I tried everything and all departments. I even filed a complaint with OHE, but they denied it without even hearing me.

I would work with OSU residency and ask why the other two schools see residency differently ? Or are the other two out of state too and giving in state tuition as a merit bonus ?

Since you are working full time, find out what it will take to qualify. You might not be far off.

Did you already pay $40 for SLS fee? If so you it seems you can have consultation.
