Some say they don’t admit by major - UF for example.

Other schools will have competitive or impacted majors. UCs are known for this. See the 2nd link for UMD.
To learn you need to look school by school is my guess.
Personally I would find the right school for me. This might come in as a secondary reason but not primary ( if this is why u r asking).
