USC Requires one letter of recommendation, and it can be from a counselor OR a teacher.

USC will accept and consider more than one recommendation, and many students submit two or three.

If you decide to submit ONE recommendation, both the form and the letter should be completed by the same person. The “may be sent separately” means the teacher or counselor can send the recommendation directly to USC - it does not have to be included with other materials you are submitting.

If the teacher or counselor hands the recommendation to you, it is fine to put it in a larger envelope with your other materials. The recommendation should be in a sealed envelope and is typically signed across the seal by the recommender (though that is not required).
