How to limit your list?

And in the “small world” category - guess who is visiting my daughter’s school all the way over here on the other side of the world today? Pitt! Get to have all her application questions, GAP questions, answered by a real live admissions officer!

Updat on PITT - they do NOT require the transcript certification service from IB schools - yeah! Just saved $180!

 awesome!
And great news for all IB students.

No BS/MD program will be a safety!!

@bopper - understood - we are treating all of those as the long shots they are.

I am from KC,MO and was accepted into the 6 yr Dual BA/MD Program. It’s competitive but there is still a great chance that your child would get in if he/she have great math/science and tested well on ACT/ SAT’s … I ultimately went to KU instead. my niece is now in the program and she loves it. It wouldn’t hurt to check it out

For the most part, gone are the days of just submitting a few (or 1) application. Many moons ago, I simply applied to my state flagship. I knew I’d get in and it was basically the only financial option (best school for the price). One and Done so to speak.

Fast forward 35 years and my son applied to 12. Many of our friends thought that was excessive, but the point is, you just don’t know today. He was admitted to 8 and it’s easy to say why not just apply to the 8, but again, you just don’t know. He applied to 2 safeties (financial) 6 matches and 4 reaches. Some ask, why so many matches. Well, these were all selective schools and you hear about similar kids applying to the same schools and getting very varied results. SO you can’t really count on anything if you’re in the highly selective arena. He probably shouldn’t have applied to the 4 reaches (Ivy league) because he wasn’t willing to do any Subject Tests (burnt out at that point) and his SATs were very good but not 1500 level (new). As parents we were thinking, why not apply, but in reality, he had very little chance.

Very happy with his choice - Wake Forest. Number two on his list and now he can’t imagine being anywhere else.
