How to make really good french press coffee?

One of mine is also a small version, but I can take the mesh apart by turning the handle counter-clockwise and keeping the bottom fixed There is no visible screw as it is hidden in the shaft. If yours is fixed or a really small one, you can also pull the mess back a little to increase the friction when pushing down.

I think replacement meshes start at the 4 cup level.

Coffee grounds make great compost. And yes, if you don’t have a compost heap you can amend soil with them directly. I used to mix them with eggshells and put them in a balcony garden when I lived in an apartment in Germany. I just use a slightly scooped shaped spatula to get the grounds out of my French press. It’s not my favorite job, so I usually manage to let dh take care of it.

Also if you like crema - you can zap your milk in the microwave and whisk it for a pretty decent approximation. It’s even easier with the tiny little battery operated whisks (Aerolatte® Steam Free Milk Frother), but my experience is that they don’t last long enough for one not to feel guilty about buying one. They work really well though!

That 8 cup Bodum referenced looks like the one I got H, his could be smaller (4 cup?) but does come apart to clean. Since I don’t drink coffee he gets to make and clean up for himself.
