@gouf78 thanks for the concern lol but I’m the one going to Cornell. The advice is really helpful! It’s nice to know there are lots of resources in Ithaca.

I flew with my frosh son last august from San Diego to Syracuse (rented a small SUV) with 4 suitcases:
- One large suitcase held prewashed bedding (comforter, mattress pad and cover, and two sets of XL Twin sheet sets) I purchased from Amazon. First thing we did was make his bed and I didn’t want to wash when we arrived. He carried his pillow on the plane.
- The other three suitcases contained all his clothing, shoes, one suit for formals, and basic toiletries.
I went to a local Super Walmart and bought extra towels, medicines/first aid items, laundry detergent to stock his room. Because he’s a boy we didn’t go overboard (well, not at all) on decor.
I did buy a small fan and an electrical strip for his laptop and cell at the Cornell store.
I would wait to order and ship heavy winter jacket, under garments and boots and send directly to the dorm. I found great deals on https://www.mountainwarehouse.com
The beds are already risen. I was able to fit two suitcases under his bed with some stuff stored in them. Rooms are approx 10x20
Plus what do you need to store? I don’t recommend the storage boxes…less is better
I found that kids do not need much as they are busy studying at library or doing activities. My S hardly spends time in his room…mostly to shower and sleep. Plus you can always send things via Amazon prime as they need throughout the year.
We are using Storage Squad to keep his stuff over the summer
