You are so right - This is all really subjective. I think about it sometimes in terms of fabric. Velvet and silk are dressy. Cotton and linen are everyday. Wool can be either. … at least, in my mind. But I could dress some cotton and linens up for a fancy night. And sometimes I wear a velvet duster to the grocery, over a contrasting more casual piece, and with lace up ankle boots,
Isn’t it funny how “we” spend so much time on wanting to look “like everyone else”???
We ask what others are wearing before attending an event. We want to wear something nicer to a dinner out but don’t because we think/know the other woman there is going to be wearing (matching) athletic wear or a pair of jeans.
If the goal is to be comfortable and happy with what you’re wearing - why not wear what you WANT?! Wear your dress, wear you heels, wear your whatever - but whatever you wear, own it! Wear it with confidence - on the inside and the outside.
And OP, I applaud your wardrobe full of color. Mine is the same. There is one pair of black “jeans” in their somewhere but not another black or grey pant - anywhere in my closet! I do wear lots of black on top, in dresses, skirts, etc. - but absolutely hate the “black slack/pant” uniform! Different strokes.
