How to start a sport as an unathletic person

and btw in my situation Football is a starting sport also baseball as well

Here in the US baseball and football definitely aren’t HS starting sports, and usually not available to females.

Looking back you will regret not trying more than any momentary awkwardness. I’m betting that you’ll surprise yourself along with those around you. Getting hurt in high school XC isn’t common so the worst thing that can happen to you is that you end up in better physical shape than when you started which means no real downside.

Track and XC make cuts at a lot of schools now. A lot of students try to get into sports as an extracurricular for college admissions, so coaches are swamped with students who want to join. The track team at my high school had over 100 students, and that just isn’t sustainable to coach.

At our HS xc/track are not cut, students will sign up to put in on applications and never show. For track bus space is limited so only the top go to meets anyway. It annoyed my daughter, who was a top runner in xc and track, never missed a practice, to see her friend’s name on the rosters every year, salutatorian of the class, never once showed up.

And at most large high schools, the runners who are on varsity are the ones who ran competitively since at least middle school or had an athletic background in soccer. Cross country and track aren’t beginner friendly sports either, and I saw a lot of hard working peers who showed up everyday never made varsity

Depending on where you live, you will get cut if you perform that poorly at a sport

Here in CA, high schools offer their students, who don’t play on teams to register with their local community college and take PE courses, and receive dual enrollment credit through their local community college.

Does your state offer something similar or maybe you’re located in CA?

The CC class here in CA requires the HS student to use their phone to register walks and runs, performed anywhere, via a phone app, which the CC instructor records in their online grade book. One also has to take weekly online quizzes on the subject of health as well.

Public HS teams can be very competitive here, so many students who want to play a sport aren’t able to because they get cut from the team(s).

Yeah, it’s crazy how competitive it is to get into sports in CA. At my high school, over 200 kids tried out for the football team. Niche sports like water polo and lacrosse had to cut 70-80% of students who tried out
