As someone else said, the entire POINT of a pet is for comfort and companionship.
“^^Isn’t the same article linked in the OP? Anyway, it is so good it is worth repeating”
So it is.
But that was three days ago. My memory…
I actually observed this recently. I was pretty surprised, but I have to admit that the dog didn’t cause any disturbance.
To me, the big issue here is bringing animals into locations where allergic people should have a reasonable expectation of non-exposure.
I saw 2 “service” pets in the airport today. They were pretty wimpy sized dogs.
I would be too nervous if I did bring my dogs with me. I’d be worried that they might have an accident, get scared, etc.
I think some of these folks would just do well with a binkie.
Or a blankie, @mom2collegekids
I was waiting in line at CVS last night to pick up a prescription and a father was ahead of me holding his d who looked about 3. After they picked up their medicine they walked over towards where people were sitting and a dog on a leash lunged and growled at the little girl. The father picked her up and walked away. Another guy sitting down exchanged looks with me and I said out loud “if that had been my child I would have ripped the woman’s head off!” And the man said you and me both because this is ridiculous. The woman then walked by me with the dog and said nothing and I told her to keep it away from me. I told the manager what happened before I left the store. As I said earlier on this thread I LOVE dogs, but they should not be in stores unless they really are a trained service animal.
Perhaps the people who need to bring their ES animals everywhere like the attention? (Oh, look at my little precious in the baby stroller!!!)
@showmom858, that is appalling what happened in the CVS. Perhaps people should just start to get assertive about this sort of thing. Write letters to the manager, letters to the editor, and refuse to go to stores that allow pets that aren’t trained service animals.
What if 10% of all Nordstrom customers at any given time will show up with their ESAs?
These (mostly untrained) dogs will do what dogs do when they see an unfamiliar dog… Bark, pee, run… Can’t wait for that to happen.
ESA’s are ONLY authorized to be permitted in airplanes and housing. That is it. They are not approved to be in stores, restaurants or what have you. Any establishment can prohibit them and does NOT have to let one in. Its just that people confuse service dogs (which are permitted) with ESA’s, which are allowed at the discretion of the establishment
According to the ADA,
One of the results of abuse of the system is that the ADA has had to limit service animals to dogs and in some cases miniature horses. A man in my town who’s paralyzed from the neck down has a capuchin as a personal assistant. The monkey can do things like turn on the lights, bring him the TV remote and play games with him. From what the family has said in interviews she’s been a life saver. Technically this animal wouldn’t qualify as a service animal.
The capuchin monkey lobby has to get on things like the mini horse lobby did.
Where are the organ grinders when you need them?
Funeral homes are using dogs to comfort mourners. Great idea, imo.

While on a college tour, the tour guide stated they bring puppies to the library during finals week to help distress the students.
I’m sure you meant DE-stress not distress.
Depends on the kid. I did type it wrong.

(LOL- ‘Beaver Dam’)
Saw an emotional support dog during the morning rush at SJC. Yikes, this dog looked so terrified of the crowds, moving X-ray belts, yelling TSA dudes, etc., it will likely need some dog psychotherapy after the trip. The humans who were being supported by the dog (a young couple dressed to the nines) looked pretty fine to me. Either the dog’s emotional support worked, or they really did not need any…
Are you sure. It was ESA? It could have just been a cabin traveller.
My D2 has an ESA dog. She has travelled with him and keeps him in his carrier under the seat. It’s easier on the dog that way.
