Miami, unless there is someone on her hall whom she knows as diabetes (and has a new lancet! jk) and then help her with a finger prick and then rely on them to tell her that her “measurement” is ok or not, this is not only not easier, not safer, not less hassle than going to the health center. At least you are correct when you say this is a simple thing, it would be simple for the health center do to and share her results immediately.

Lots of hugs to all the parents posting on here, I can only imagine what you go through each day, especially with the little kids. Technology and other advances are making things better and more manageable, but not the understanding of the general public.

UPDATE: Thanks so much, everyone! I nagged her for three days about going to the health center, but she kept saying she didn’t have time. In the meantime, she kept up her exercise routine, felt fine, and the symptoms abated. She has promised that if they return or if she starts to feel bad in any way, she will go to health services right away. This is about all I can expect, unless I want to physically drag her to the doctor myself. And yes, that did occur to me.

I am very touched and grateful for your concern and helpful posts.

Massmomm, the fact that her symptoms have subsided indicates IMHO that she does not have t1. I am not a doctor, but the fact that one’s ability to function gets worse and worse until insulin is received, makes me think this is not what caused her illness. Glad she is feeling better and hope it stays that way!!
