How was your Harvard interview?

well for future interviews, you can say, “hi, i’m razalman (replace with real name). how are you, love?” as most sane people would do

OOH actually my interviewer just told me ( not that I asked tho) that harvard is only interviewing half of the applicants from here  so they did select who to interview…
she said the policies this year is different, she didnt get any info of the applicants unlike last year …
Mine was only an hour, and O_O i think i was so nervous i spoke waaaaay too fast…

lol Razalman… I can only imagine the look on the interviewer’s face.

@ imlost: Sorry this might sound a bit creeper ish but where are you from?

I’m only asking because my friend applied to Harvard but didn’t get an interview, whereas I did and we live in the same area.

My interview two weeks ago was mediocre. The interviewer went to Harvard grad school and all he really did was brag about his lifestyle and his children who go to ivy leagues. He was arrogant and condescending, and he even mentioned that people who go to Harvard are entitled to being like that. He is a very conservative, wealthy man and I am the complete opposite so he looked down on some of my “liberal” interests. He looked at the pre-interview sheet and asked me questions like “so what is this organization,” “what does this title mean,” etc, but usually cut me off after a few words. After a couple minutes he asked me for questions I had about Harvard and so I asked a few things but he would answer with facts about Yale, Princeton, Stanford, etc etc. He constantly talked about these schools… Yeah. It wasn’t a horrible interview, but it wasn’t great either. He definitely talked more about himself than I was able to talk about me. I could tell he didn’t like what I have to offer. Oh well! I’m glad I was able to interview at least.

I have mine tomorrow and i have to drive to his house. Im a bit nervous. I did another interview with another school and that went well except that i didnt have a lot of questions. I hope this one goes better.

oh my goodness…my Harvard interview was 2.5 hours long LOL. He asked me for test scores/GPA, as well as all the colleges I was applying to and why. He also grilled me on my knowledge of US History and Macroeconomics, like what I thought about Obama’s stimulus plans. I kind of blanked out and wasn’t very impressive. Oh well lol…I will be better prepared for the next time.

But we really connected on my work in video games (he is a fan of them) and violin, since he used to play it.

I hope the fact it was so long is a good sign. I guess he would have cut it shorter if I was annoying him/not interesting :P

I’m wondering if any of you heard this from your interviewer. “If you are accepted and don’t want to go, please call me. It’s part of my job to persuade applicants.”

^Yep. Basically, my interviewer said the same thing: “If another school offers you more financial aid than Harvard (if I get in), then call me up and I’ll pull some strings.”

ah, so I guess it’s more of a procedure than a good sign. never mind. seeing how many kids they reject after great interviews, it’s hard to tell from interviewer’s response.

she just kind of looked at my like i was a complete idiot…Not exactly the first impression I wanted to make. But i think the rest of the interview went alright…

I’m from Canada, and I know quite ALOT of kids around me who are applying to US…all the best schools too… my school has students going to harvard, princeton, yale every year… well i guess they don’t have as many alumni from here? tho my interviewer has two coworker from harvard too!!!

I wonder if anyone else can confirm the apparent new policy that not all Harvard applicants will have an interview. Northstarmom, maybe? Thanks!

Interesting story:

So I was accepted ED at Penn’s Wharton School and had to withdraw all of my applications, and did so about a week ago. I got a call a few days ago from a Harvard alumni asking about an interview, so I told him about the ED policy and how I had to remove myself from the applicant pool. So he says “Well, I looked over your application and I would still love to sit and talk with you, Harvard student or not.” Felt a little weird accepting that offer, but he offered a free lunch so who could say no? We sat and talked for like 2-3 hours at a restaurant at a place around 30 minutes from where I live and it was a ton of fun! He was a pretty conservative guy and had a lot to ask about everything… from my future plans to my opinions of Obama.

Makes me regret having to pull all my applications… But what can ya do? I just thought it was pretty cool of the guy to still give me the opportunity to talk to him.

I still havent received one…

so far i got one from yale… a PhD in poli sci from cambridge… undergrad at yale… lol

Can anyone tell me if they are still scheduling interviews? i heard something like until late feb they will be scheduling them… Im currently living in canada with US citizenship

I heard that one question from the Harvard’s interview is “why you apply for Harvard while you also apply for PYSM and other colleges?” It seems not easy to answer. Is there any suggestion?
Thanks!

^ If you can’t answer that question, maybe you shouldn’t have applied.

^^First of all, there’s a reason that H comes first in HYPSM. That’s why you apply to Harvard. ;] lollll jk.

I had my interview Sunday morning. It was fun. The guy was really nice and down to earth. We talked for about an hour and a half. I actually asked HIM why he chose Harvard over Yale or Princeton because he said he got into all three and we got onto the subject of the differences.

I had my interview last saturday and it went really well. only about 45 mins but we really seemed to connect. he asked what other schools i was applying to which seemed unorthodox but idk. he didnt really write anything down though it was more like a conversation. the one question that almost stumped me was what 3 people from history would you bring to dinner, but i think i ended up with a decent answer (talleyrand, newton, leibniz). the one thing i didnt like was that it was in a starbucks and it was loud and crowded, but that seems to be a common place for harvard interviews so i guess its not a big deal. anyways, he said i was the most qualified applicant hed seen so far and he would write me a good rec but that the interview is more of an informal thing anyways just to make sure youre not socially awkward- aka it can break your app but not make it.
