I’ve been fighting stage four cancer for over ten years so I do know how important a vaccine AGAINST CANCER is. The HPV vaccine has not always been without controversy. I do not take everything the medical profession or the pharmaceutical companies say at face value. I do my REPUTABLE research.
My brother has stage 4b squamous cell carcinoma – the kind of head and neck cancer young men with HPV can develop. It is horrendous. You do not want your child to deal with this.
It is a personal decision that requires extensive reading to make a decision. We are in the no camp for this vaccine. My children with my blessing said no. My eldest heard enough horror stories from friends who had rhe shots to say no way. I concur. And no I do not necessarily think doctors are always correct. The once tooted low fat diet is now out. Fat was bad now carbs are. Avocados once upon a time were an absolute no no. They were wrong. That being said my kids have just about every other vaccine.
^^ Food and dietary choices, based on a doctor’s opinion or not, are pretty insignificant compared to a vaccine that could protect the health of or even save your child’s (or your child’s partner’s) life. But I’m glad that your family has most of the recommended vaccines.
The “fat is bad” was overhyped by the good ol’ food Industry that took the recommendation to the extreme. Zero fat!! Yippie. Fat is still bad in larger than needed quantity.
The young boy in the HPV guilt provoke commercial looks so much like my H did at that age that I actually thought they had dug out his old head shots, because he did model as a child. It freaks me out to see it.
Avacodos were high fat so they were on the do not eat list when low fat was the rage.
My child’s friend who never had health problems suddenly did after the HPV injection. Basically couldn’t walk for like a year. Other girls complained about reactions as well. Having a child with enough health problems of her own she wasn’t willing to risk it. Doing extensive reading myself I found numerous stories of bad reactions as well. My thought is that most vaccines are to protect you from airborne / close proximity diseases whereas the risk for HPV can be minimized by behavior and personal choice. Its been a while since I have researched the vaccine but from research at the time the vaccine is not lifelong. So does the vaccine even protect you at 20 when you have been vaccinated at ten? Based on my research at the time it was highly questionable. The risk while maybe small did not outweigh the benefit for our family.
Fortunately I have not always take the advice of doctors or the pharma industry. Food may seem insignificant but I beg to differ. Drugs are never insignificant nor or incorrect diagnosis. They make mistakes all the time and sometimes preach things that years later only comes to light. Hence why medical decisions require you to be informed. A doctor while they may have a medical degree is not all knowing. I make decisions weighing the benefit versus risk as should everyone based on their own belief system and research. What happened to my chil’s friend was anything but insignificant. Maybe it was a coincidence but based on other accounts I seriously doubted it.
There is ZERO comparison between diet & vaccines. There is a reason why we can’t study diets very well- wayy wayyyyyy too many factors since many foods are necessary to live.
RCT with vaccines and cohort studies OTOH are pretty conclusive.
“Avacodos were high fat so they were on the do not eat list when low fat was the rage.”
Only if you were on a strict calorie counting diet for weight loss and it wasn’t the medical community touting the avoidance of avocados. I’ve only ever heard that the fat in avocados is “good for you” fat. Much the same as eating salmon is good for you because it is healthy fat. There is no standard “do not eat” list that the medical community puts out.
In contrast, over 40 countries recommend the HPV vaccine to their citizens, including pretty much all of Europe.
My point was science is not always correct. Low fat diet switch has been fairly recent hence I used it as an example. Plenty of lawsuits over the years against pharma for unsafe drugs that were deemed safe. Someone was asking for the thought process of those who said no which is what I was providing. I am not trying to sway anyone so no sense in arguing.
Well i promise you cardiac patients 30 years ago were told avacados were bad fat. Not worth arguing about. I remember the list provided of do not eat foods as my mother followed it to a t.
Friends, here’s the summary of the latest data from the CDC:
[ul]
[]HPV infections are so common that nearly all men and women will get at least one type of HPV at some point in their lives.
[]There is no test to find out a person’s “HPV status.” Most people never know that they have been infected and may give HPV to a sex partner without knowing it.
[]Most HPV infections go away by themselves within two years. But in 1 of 10 cases, HPV infections will last longer and cause cancer.
[]Every year in the United States, HPV causes 30,700 cancers in men and women.
[li]HPV vaccines provide close to 100% protection[/li][/ul] Is the HPV vaccine safe? The United States currently has the safest, most effective vaccine supply in history. Years of testing are required by law to ensure the safety of vaccines before they are made available for use in the United States. All three HPV vaccines—Cervarix®, Gardasil®, and Gardasil® 9—went through years of extensive safety testing before they were licensed by FDA.
This is a silly debate. My kids both had it in middle school. You can get a vaccine that reduces your kid’s chance of getting multiple types of cancer, for crying out loud. What is wrong with people?
My child’s reaction was not coincidental with something else. It was biopsied, and she is listed on the VAERS reporting website. That said, I’m glad she got 2 of the 3 shots and should have 95% protection (its 99% if you get all 3).
VAERS is useless and any one can post anything there. There was a report on there that a vaccine turned a man into the Hulk.
Look, I do history of medicine. I work on the history of bad modern medicine- eugenics and related issues in the US. NO ONE has to convince me that scientists and doctors get it wrong sometimes.
BUT vaccines aren’t one of them. We have been testing and monitoring vaccines for centuries. We’ve been doing it with modern methods for generations. Vaccines are SAFE for most people. The vast majority of people. I’m one of those who cannot get certain vaccines because I’m immune-suppressed. I know how important herd immunity is for those of us (for whatever reason) cannot get vaccines.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Let’s move off from the general discussion of vaccines. There’s is an open thread for that discussion, and the OP did not ask here if vaccines in general are needed.
