@barrons, we’re thinking of retiring to the Williamsburg area. Are you familiar with it? Do you have any thoughts on the differences between Lynchburg (which sounds like a nice place that perhaps we should consider) and Williamsburg?
H loves WIlliamsburg! It has a lot of restaurants and the historic area nearby. Am not familiar with medical facilities, but woud want to be sure wherever I was retiring to had great medical facilities nearby. It’s a few hours drive from DC–not sure what’s available closer if you need care.
Just keep in mind that driving in and near DC is an absolute nightmare.
I was born in Lynchburg, so it must be great!
Only plan we have for retirement is to get away for the worst of New England winters–Jan to Mar. Otherwise we will continue to do what we’ve been doing the last 7 years–spend July and August and weekends in Sept/June at our vacation place and the rest of the time at our main house. The two are 100 miles apart. Vacation home is on an island, which we love. It is also a place that my kids love even more; they will always come to
visit us there–one of the main reasons we bought the place.
