Huge increase in 2021-22 FAFSA EFC score with additional child in college ??

Yes, somehow I missed that section in 1040 form and I thought the rollover happen in 2018 and not 2019. It’s been a crazy year.

Thanks again everyone!

I will say…there is a small box to check on the FAFSA which indicates you did a rollover…then the amount is asked for. Lots of people miss this question…and if that happens, that rollover money is maintained as income.

That’s why i asked that question in my first reply.

Glad you found the issue.

You will need to contact the schools the FAFSA with the rollover not noted because only the colleges can make this change.

@kelsmom and many of us have remarked that this rollover question should be MUCH more clear and easily noted on the form. So many people miss this…and it’s just an extra step to get I all corrected.

It should be fine now that you have identified the issue. Whew!

This is an issue that financial aid administrators have brought up at Federal Student Aid conferences. I can’t remember for sure, but I think that when the DRT first came out, there was no way to indicate the rollover. I am pretty sure you just had to magically know to contact the school. The checkbox is an improvement, but there is still improvement needed.

I have already spread the words around to all my network about this as unless you experience this issue you will not know about it until it’s too late.

Thanks again everyone!!
