Meanwhile, the Florida football game is still allegedly happening Saturday. Priorities.
Hope everyone in the path stays safe.

^ Oy.
Just had message from my SIL in Naples. My nephew and family in Jax Beach boarded up and evaced to Atlanta.
Jim Cantore and crew are leaving Melbourne Beach and heading south as he doesn’t think his crew is safe there. You know it’s going to be really really bad if Cantore is baling.
Yikes. The only thing scarier than seeing Cantore in your area is seeing him leave because it’s not safe.
I miss the Weather Channel since FiOS took them off and replaced with whatever other weather network they put in their place.
I have a cousin who lives on the barrier beach Hutchinson Island which is Ft Pierce/Vero Beach. They have evacuated inland to where their son lives in Coral Springs which will be still in the path of the storm but not a direct hit. They have secured their boat, secured their house and hope for the best. The year with the four hurricanes they were without power for a month and the entire marina where their boat is docked was entirely destroyed but their boat had drifted downstream and was able to be salvaged and rebuilt.
NoVADad99, my husband is with you. He hates that he doesn’t get the Weather Channel on TV any longer, only online.
The winds are starting and the birds chirping away. Hours spent in preparation Now the wait.
be safe
They are now just telling everyone to move inland, but even Orlando is in a warning zone. UF students are advised to shelter in place. I really doubt they’ll have football. I think the storm may hit a little north of Ft Lauderdale which would be great as then that major area can house some people. From Jupiter to GA is going to be a mess for a long tome. I really doubt any of the schools along the coast will return to classes for a week or more - FIU, FL Tech, Embry-Riddle, Flagler, North Florida, Jacksonville could all suffer major damage.
I did see that Orlando and Jacksonville airports are closing g soon.
Stay safe @bookworm!
Thx Jym. I’ve done everything I could to,prepare. I have hurricane windows, doors, just not a generator. I broke my 5:00 rule and am drinking a Bloody Mary now.
Football isn’t going to happen. Quite ridiculous that they are pretending it will.
There is no 5:00 rule when you’re riding out (or waiting for) a storm. Once you’re battened down, go for it if you are so inclined.
To all those in Florida, Georgia , and charleston ( where I was three weeks ago ) sending lots of love from Sputh Jersey where we remember an “S” storm not so long ago.
@bookworm, I can’t believe you are staying! Are any of your neighbors around? How far from the water are you? I’ll say a prayer for you.
My SIL has driven inland from Daytona Beach to Lake Mary, where she has a hotel room reserved for the next two nights. Lake Mary looks as if it may get hit, too, so I hope she’s all right. Her house is literally right across the street from the beach - I hope it makes it.
I’m 5 miles inland, not in an evacuation zone. My friend coming over soon. It’s the waiting that gets to us.
Even Disney is closing!
You know it’s bad when UF-LSU game is postponed.
Well, they should have moved the game yesterday.
@MaineLonghorn - I drove over to Ormond Beach very early this morning from Gainesville solely to sandbag my parents house, and they are on the west side of the Halifax River. They are part-timers, out of the country. I just had a bad feeling about Volusia County which is what motivated me to get over there. Normally I would have trusted their neighbor to deal with their house. I think your friend made the right call, especially on the ocean side. But yeah, even Lake Mary could get rough. Keeping our fingers crossed here in Florida.
