I am a nervous wreck -- postmark date for CINEMA APPLICANTS?

I submitted my online application at about 12:30 AM (Pacific Time) on the morning of November 30th. I live in northern Illinois. Later that day I waited for my post office to open at 8 AM (Central Time) to mail my supplements. I had someone weigh everything for me to make sure I had the right amount of postage. I asked if they would be postmarked November 30th and they said yes. I mailed everything hours before the post truck goes around so I am sure everything was already on its way by that afternoon.

“It is your responsibility to ensure that all required application materials are sent to USC by the posted deadlines. Applications postmarked after the deadlines listed above are not guaranteed a priority review.”

Since the deadline page said that applications had to be POSTMARKED by the deadline, I thought I was safe.

According to the USC Undergraduate Admission FAQs:

“USC application deadlines are postmark deadlines. Therefore, as long as an application or other materials are mailed and postmarked by the deadline date, they will be considered on-time. The only exception to this relates to the School of Cinema-Television. Cinema’s deadline dates are ‘received by’ dates, so applicants to these programs should endeavor to mail their materials with ample lead time to account for postal processing.”

The way the worded it is so vague… “applicants should ENDEAVOR to mail their materials…” The Cinema-Television deadline is December 1st and that passage says that all materials need to be received by USC by December 1st… Does that mean that my supplements will be considered late?! :(

Just found this on the SCA FAQ site:

Are all SCA materials due on the deadline date or post-marked by the deadline date?
All application materials must be post-marked by the deadline date. If all requested material is not post-marked by the deadline, an applicant will no longer be guaranteed that the admission committee will review his/her file.

See! You have nothing to worry about! :)

Whew, thank you. One of my friends who is a current freshman at SCA just confirmed and said that when she called them last year they told her it just had to be POSTMARKED by Dec 1.

You’re welcome! Good luck getting into SCA! I’m applying there as a transfer so I have a later deadline. It’s still nerve-wrecking though, since according to the site, transfers only get accepted on a space-available basis. Anyway, I wish you all the best! :D

And you as well!
