I am an INTROVERT

I usually find it easy to narrow it down to a few choices, but once I’ve done that, I start agonizing over which I really want.

Late to this thread, but ISTJ. Boy, am I ever ISTJ.

I don’t necessarily find it hard to narrow the choices down. I do have problems pulling the trigger. I make extensive use of the Saved For Later function on Amazon.

So do I. Then I try to reserve it from my library. :)

Pelicularities, you wrote a post a few days back about relationships between two MB types and left a few keywords to search. I’ll have you know I was up until 6 am that night, reading tangents to tangents to tangents.

One thing that kept me busy for hours was a 60-page thread of stuff that people of a certain type find interesting. Pictures, animated gifs, videos that range from funny to mesmerizing (fractal videos) to fascinating (try looking at a couple of pages to get a good sampler). Disregard the thread title – this is intellectual “porn” which will only stimulate your cerebral cortex:

LoremIpsum: :open_mouth: they had me at the second hand.

I spend hours, days, weeks researching which brand of something I want to buy. Then I’ll find myself at a store and buy something completely different on the spur of the moment, ignoring all the research I’ve done. Then I get home and lament the purchase because it is not as nice as the one I knew I should have bought. It’s like the research rather than the result is the reward. What the heck is that all about? My friends always call me up to get recommendations on everything because they know I have likely researched things to death, even if I don’t own them.

Decided to chime in…I think it took a while because I am such an introvert

I have really enjoyed reading this thread, and love how much I can identify with many of your posts! I think as introverts it can be difficult to find and connect with other introverts since we just don’t put ourselves out there. I have no problem talking to a group when it comes to work related things, or speaking in front of a group on a specific topic, but that making small talk thing…not so easy. I tend to duck and run when I see people I know out in public (well, not literally run, but I will often head the other way and hope I haven’t been spotted). It has nothing to do with liking or not liking the person. It is just so awkward, and that awkward feeling creates just that little moment of panic so then I forget the person’s name, or their kid’s or spouse’s names…who I know I should ask about, etc.

The shopping references were enlightening too. I have often commented that my MIL doesn’t go shopping. She goes ‘buying’. I remember the first couple times we went ‘shopping’. I expected a leisurely couple hours of hanging out at the mall, but she meant business…went to 1 store, spotted what she wanted, bought it…done. lol

Researching and indecision…yep, and yep, …I will research and research, and then because I can’t decide, I will research again. I do end up learning a lot about the choices, and do narrow it down based on the research, but my final decision will be what feels right at that moment. Some things I research (say, like colleges for example) I think I keep re-researching them in the same way one might keep looking in the pantry for a snack. The perfect thing wasn’t there last time you looked, but MAYBE this time. lol

Hence your low J number. =p

^^^maybe. ;-)

Heh. I just bought a car last week, after my old one couldn’t be fixed. Did the research in the early morning; test drove four cars mid-morning to mid-afternoon; took my kids to some appointments; returned to one dealer in the late afternoon, test-drove the one I liked again and purchased it. Some colleagues were amazed that I could make such a large decision so suddenly. Every one of the four houses I’ve purchased, I’ve purchased in a weekend (all of them were out of town moves). I like shoboemom’s distinction between shopping and buying. I detest shopping.

My weirdest car buying experience - I had researched for weeks and decided exactly what I wanted so headed for dealership. For some reason, I went to the wrong dealership and didn’t realize I was in the wrong place until I was inside. I was greeted by a salesman and told him I was in the wrong place. I ended up buying a car at the wrong dealership that night - something that was not even on the radar and I had not researched at all.

I got a good deal on a used car off Craigslist. I was the 4th to call, but the first to show up. A conversation, a test drive, payment and it was done. Of course it didn’t hurt that the seller owned a repair shop – I knew where to find him if he had lied about the condition.

cartera, that’s a great story. In fact, the car I ended up buying I had not heard of until the day I bought it, but it came up in a top ten list when I was looking for information online.

I often g0 by how something feels, I was convinced wanted a certain car but could never pull the trigger, finally I asked t drive another car, loved and pulled the trigger right away, it just felt right.
