I am disliking winter weather so a 2nd home

Mom60, Doct, you are right. As anxiousmom1 said, I am being wimpy.

I don’t like temperatures in the 40’s or lower.

I just had lunch Monday with a friend who has a place in Nor Cal and a place in Palm Desert. He keeps telling me I should do the same.

Then I go outside for a long walk this morning, and I have to say, the idea sounded pretty good at that time.

Looks like there are many posters that have thought of ways to escape parts of the winter.

I was in Ann Arbor during the fall a few times. Temperature was in the 40’s. I don’t know. The 40’s must be different in Michigan than the 40’s elsewhere. It was freaking cold.

Two words: Merino Wool.

:) I hate wool. Really.

let’s not exaggerate…I live in southern NE and it’s a few months of winter…wouldn’t live anywhere without 4 distinct seasons…and I actually like the winter, love the snow., love the wood stove. 75 degrees year round would bore the heck out of me.

OT, but dstark, when I was in Ann Arbor, 40s was a freakin’ heat wave. It seemed like it was sub-10 for months on end (still love that town, though.)

Merino Wool is different.

BTW, it’s 40 degrees here right now. I was out this evening in a light jacket.

Ha! When I was in Ann Arbor, I think it was cold. Most people just grabbed a beer. Beer is warmer than wool.

Well its 44 degrees here and I don’t like it. This has been a mild December so far. Its unlikely to stay like this much longer. Two years ago it was like this until just after Christmas and then it was all over.

I love Ann Arbor. I could live there, beer or no beer, but it is too cold there.

And Garland, I avoided the winters there for the most part. :)

^^You all are wimps  my boys wear shorts when it’s in the 40s…to school…the shorts get put away when the snow is deep enough to get into the topsiders. Me I only get cold when it’s damp, wet snow which is December, February and March generally…sometimes January if it’s a mild winter. When it’s sub-zero it tends not to be “damp.”

Argentina might be nice…you can ski there.

I have no problem being wimpy. :)

Personally, I love Scottsdale. No hurricanes.

I like four seasons. I am kind of waiting for a real snow fall in NYC.

dstark, it was 48 in Toronto today. Didn’t I suggest to you years ago that you should move to Canada? ;)

Alwaysamom, yes you did. :)

But you are going to spend more and more time in South Carolina. ;)

It was 47 degrees here today. But…weather.com said it felt like 41 degrees. :)

momofthreeboys, my kids wear shorts year-round here in Maine. Well, except in July when they decide to wear long pants for some reason - seriously!

I lived in Texas the first half of my life, and Maine after that. I have to say I like Maine better. One of these years I wouldn’t mind spending the springs in Texas, though! My parents have a condo on Mustang Island, in Corpus Christi. They have no trouble renting it out. They finally found a good management company to take care of everything for them.

Since we spent Jan-Feb in CA, the only time I saw snow so far in 2012 was when we drove back home across the Rockies. I didn’t miss it at all and I know that’s about to change. :frowning: I grew up in Michigan (including school in Ann Arbor), one year in NYC, then the last 37 years in Chicago and vicinity. I think the midwest (normally) has one giant season of winter and three teeny seasons of spring, summer, and fall. DS lives in the bay area and does not miss winter at all. DH claims he doesn’t mind winter so I let him do all the snow shoveling ;).

Once I finally get out of here for good, if I ever feel the urge to experience snow, I can always drive or fly to it! Just give me some sun and a nice big body of water and I’ll be fine.

Marilyn, then it is a good thing you settled on San Diego and not Portland. :)

The idea of maintaining more than one home doesn’t sound very appealing to me. Maintaining one is plenty for us. We live in warm, sunny weather year round but several of my mom’s friends have several places they live in. Not sure if they rent or own multiple homes, but they stay for weeks to months at a time.

We hope to be able to travel more and perhaps will rent for weeks to month(s) when H retires in the near future. About 3-5 weeks trip at a time is about as long as I can get H to leave HI. We shall see. Perhaps we will have prolonged visits in the cities where our kids live–LA & DC/VA.
