I think it’s mostly because there are FAR more US students at McGill than anywhere else. The numbers I once saw were something like 2,500 US students at McGill and only 1,000 US students at all other Canadian colleges combined. Americans don’t know of any other schools for the most part. McGill and Montreal are very accepting of international students - they make it easy to apply and get accepted. It’s like the Worlds Fair never left. Also, Montreal is close for New Englanders and it seems like they use McGill like their state school (because its better than New England state schools too). A lot of French Canadians have immigrated to New England.</p>
