I don't mind stealing bread

You mean it’s not a direct Democracy. A Republic is a form of Democracy (indirect Democracy). The only deviation from Democracy is when someone becomes President after losing the popular vote. In that case, it is not Democracy.

I think it is wrong to steal even from the rich. Usually people are rich because they worked for it. I work for my money, grated I don’t have a lot of it, and I save up for stuff that a lot of people can’t afford. Like this computer. It isn’t necessary, but I have it, and I guess you can call it a luxury to have compared to people in third world countries. There are people who will be lazy, drop out of high school, and give up and become homeless, and there are people who will be willing to work their *** off to go to a top college and get a high paying job and be ‘rich’. Does the homeless person have a right to steal the rich person’s BMW? It almost sounds communist to have everyone so strictly ‘equal’ that it doesn’t matter if you work or not, you still get food to eat and clothes to wear. I live in LA and I guess I have enough food in my apartment to feed about 10 other homeless, but that would mean we all get the absolute minimal and we’d be eating one canned food meal a day with a handful of water. Now we’re all even, but who has to work for that one meal a day? Personally, rich people kind of motivate me to work. I want to be that person living well and not having to worry everyday about financial issues. Even if I were that homeless person without anything to eat, I’d rather be a personal maid paid under the table for $2 an hour and apply for free food at the food bank than steal someone else’s earned food. I’d feel so awfully guilty of stealing.

A Constitutional Republic is not in any way a “form of democracy” as a type of government. It is entirely distinct from “indirect democracy” as a form of government (if that is even a form of government). It is a government that mixes oligarchical and democratic principles. It is, as John Adams said, “a government of laws, and not of men.” It is specifically designed to temper tyranny of the majority, which is what you would have in your equal distribution of resources (property).

If I was starving and broke as hell with no opportunities to better my situation, I would steal to survive, and to ensure the survival of anyone dependent on me. For me, as soon as my security is lost, everything else becomes secondary.

^ Me too. But I still wouldn’t consider it morally acceptable. I’d accept that I did something wrong.
