A couple of decades ago, I was having a late lunch in the nearly-empty diner in our little town. As I got up to leave, the woman at a nearby table asked me whether there was a place in town where she could get some camera film processed. SHe looked familiar and I said " Do people ever tell you that you look like Goldie Hawn?" SHe said “Well, no, not usually”, and her daughter burst out laughing. THinking I had perhaps offended her, I added " But you are obviously much younger than Goldie! And she always wears way too much makeup." Her daughter then became hysterical with laughter, and that’s when I realized I had just said that to the actual Goldie Hawn… The 3 of us had a good laugh together at that point. I was mortified! They were in town to see young son of Goldie and Kurt who was playing in a hockey game at Berkshire School.
Well, I knew I was bad . . . but I got 0. A* zero.* Wow.
I matched 0/14 on the test, which makes sense as I am not a visual person. However, 40 years later, I still remember the full names and dates of birth of all of the children for whom I was a day camp counselor for 8 weeks in the summer of 1977.
I don’t know if I’m visual or not, but I’m terrible with names too. When my D17 was in eighth grade, she would get mad at me for calling one of her friends, a girl she’d known since first grade and played softball with for three years, “Whojamajigger.” We went to see her in a show last year (they go to different high schools now). I can’t remember her name right now.
@BunsenBurner BTW I’d give a slight edge to Sully over Deepwater Horizon.
it boggles my mind that Kurt Russell movies can be discussed for 3-4 pages and not one mention of …
TOMBSTONE !!!
“you gonna do something or just stand there and bleed?”
@Wien2NC -
The fact that Kurt Russell movies can be discussed for 3 - 4 pages without mentioning Tombstone, another awesome movie, just shows that his body (of work, lol!) is worth discussing in detail.
time for Kurt Russell Top 5’s! here is mine:
- The Thing
- Tombstone
- Executive Decision
- Stargate
- Overboard
1 - Overboard
2 - Captain Ron
3 - Executive Decision
4 - Tombstone (Val Kilmer didn’t hurt, either)
5 - Stargate
Of course, I will always have a soft spot for The Travels of Jamie McPheeters, the movie that brought Kurt into my life!
I can’t hear Kurt Russell’s name without thinking of one of the scariest, creepiest movies I ever saw… The one where the bad guys kidnap his wife in the desert after sabotaging their car… Maybe somebody already mentioned it here… Was it called “Breakdown”? Gave me nightmares!
I got 8/14 so I’m average at recognizing faces.
I working in Georgetown DC for several years and my coworkers saw celebrities all of the time. I saw exactly one- Ann Compton , and that was only because someone with me pointed her out. It’s very likely I saw several others, just didn’t recognize them
I saw a celebrity about 20 years ago arriving at a Disneyland event for VIPs (Tony Danza). He and other celebrities walked in through a roped off pathway. One photography would shout out their names trying to get them to turn and look for a photo. Tony was very funny - he had a camera, too and HE acted like the photographer was someone famous and HE whipped out his camera and tried to get the photographer to look at him and smile and pose/wave for HIS camera.
I have a friend who worked for the airlines for VIP customers and they gave him that assignment because he wasn’t very celebrity savvy and didn’t even recognize Stevie Wonder!
Ha! I’m not that good but I’m pretty sure I’d know Stevie Wonder.
Many, many years ago, I worked in the same building as a very popular radio station. One day, I found I was in the elevator with Billy Gibbons (OK, it may have been Dusty Hill - it was a ZZTop guy with a beard). He was pleasant and started a conversation. I would have asked for his autograph, but the only paper I had with me were tax returns and I seriously doubted he would sign that.
I actually handled a deposition where Tony Danza was the witness. He was very pleasant, surprisingly short and danced down the hallway of the courthouse. I did not ask him for an autograph. A colleague of mine attended Catholic elementary school with Tony.
Loretta Switt (Mash movie) started a conversation with me at airport. She was filming in Delray. She commented on my boots. I moved near her and we just chatted “girl” stuff until we boarded.
I was in NYC yesterday to see Hamilton. At lunch, Rebel Wilson was seated at the table across from us. I had a direct view of her. I only knew it was her when D, who was sitting next to me, discreetly texted me with the info. Rebel was in town to film SNL. I have zero facial recognition.
Rick Schroeder introduced himself to me outside D’s classroom after we invited his D to our D’s birthday party back in elementary school. Seemed like a nice guy. I was going to make him work the snow-cone machine at the party but he just dropped his D off and left. :((
