I have an Ipod; what do I do with it?

lje, your Christmas music problem has an easy fix. You just need to make a playlist - put everything you want but the Christmas music on it. Then you can listen to the playlist in shufflemode.

I think you can also tell the iPod not to include a particular song, or set of songs, in shuffle.

If you enjoy listening to any sort of talk radio, you’ll want to check out “podcasts”. Podcasts are (generally) free audio shows on just about any topic you can think of. There are podcasts of National Public Radio shows, and there are podcasts run by fans of (fill in your favorite sports team) talking about the week’s big game. iTunes has at least one podcast introducing new music; the NYT has one with the day’s headlines. There are podcasts across the political spectrum. You can find these and many, many others through itunes, or via the website of your favorite radio station/news outlet/what have you. When you subscribe to a podcast, new “episodes” are automatically downloaded to your iTunes account on your computer, and will be placed on your iPod when you attach it to the computer.

I just switched to a car with a built in iPod “dock”. WAY COOL!!!

What used to be nothing more than a part of my workout bag (which doesn’t see as much use as it should) has suddenly become much more important to my daily life - and the playlist management is actually getting attention.

It is happy hour at the [iLounge](GT Advanced court filings show $50M penalty for Apple leaks | iLounge)

I never thought I would use the video part of my ipod ( I had, had a shuffle and and a 1st gen nano), but my favorite band has a ** ton** of videos on youtube that I convert to play on the ipod when I need a little extra incentive at the gym.

I have photos stored on it of course & it syncs with my calendar but I also downloaded tv shows to watch on a flight & in bed. ( I also read books on my PDA) my H has to get up at 4am, & light disturbs him, but the palm works OK for books ( and it is backlit unlike the kindle) & while I wouldn’t watch movies that are more about the cinematography on the ipod, it is great for the West Wing & Flight of the Conchords ;)

I’m in the same ‘boat’ as the OP. How much does downloading the songs from Itunes cost? I’ve had mine for a couple of months and still haven’t figured it out. Reminds me of when my grandmother used to have us kids open her ‘childproof’ prescription bottles! Guess I’ll have to get a kid to help me!

Songs on iTunes typically cost 99 cents. You can easily copy all the songs from your own CDs for free, and with a bit more technology you can copy records and tapes too. If you’re like me, you can fill up a lot of space on the iPod with music you already own.

and an album is generally $9.99 with some songs that are not available by themselves.
Because my favorite band  encourages bootlegs, I can also put lots of stuff on it for free.
Itunes also offers free songs & when you buy things from Ticketmaster you can get a code for free songs as well.

As emeraldkity 4 said, use it when exercising. It rovides that extra motivation/distraction to keep going.

I use mine constantly. I have an iHome, which my parents bought me for my last birthday, and I love it. It’s so fun to wake up to music you actually LIKE, and I often leave the music on throughout my morning to wake me up.

I also have an iTrip, which allows me to play my iPod in my car. My friends love it too, because it can work with any type of iPod…so if they’re in my car and have their iPod, we can listen to mine or theirs. It is a little static-y sometimes, but if you can find the right station, it works wonderfully and sounds like you’re listening to it through an aux jack for a fraction of the cost (plus, if I get a new car, I don’t have to worry about re-installation or losing any money!). Just make sure you have a car-charger if you’re going on a long trip…it does drain the battery fairly quickly.[Griffin Technology: iTrip](http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itrip/)

I looove my little Nano…it goes everywhere with me.

I am planning on getting some better headphones before I leave for college, because the white iPod ones aren’t all that great. But I’m literally addicted to my iPod…the only reason I’m ever without it is if it’s at home, charging (which the iHome also conveniently does, so that is a rarity).

I enjoy my Nano also!

One tip…got my son to download songs from his (huge) itunes list for me (those that he thought I’d like…he knows my general taste).

Now I’ve got a bunch of fun, new songs to listen to! Nice way to get out of a musical rut…!
