@CottonTales and others, “families serve too,” and “kids serve too,” are actually slogans used in military settings and public service on AFN. We just finished month of the military military child and it’s a common slogan on some of the purple t-shirts seen around the base. I guess advertisers have jumped on it.
Before my Navy officer BIL was posted to an very important overseas position, my sister was interviewed extensively. She was expected to host significantly large affairs in her home and to meet and greet visiting dignitaries. She and BIL met Nancy and Ronald Reagan and George and Barbara Bush, among others. She absolutely served alongside her husband.
@CottonTales military brat here also. Military families sacrifice a lot when their loved ones are called into service or when they have to constantly relocate.
USAA motto is “we know what it means to serve”. I don’t think they were jumping on any bandwagon. It’s what their business is about. They pay close attention to how military families think about service. We felt very fortunate to have legacy access ( through my FIL) to the insurance at a time when not everyone could get.
Good for you, @bjkmom ! Adults who work with other adults, not adults who work with kids, come up with these things. Many students at our school work hard to diminish the focus on appearances. Glad you made the effort!
