I just smacked my dog in the snout

I play fight with cats and dogs. That involves some rough play on both sides, calibrated to the size of the animal and its hardiness. And thus some whacking as a control measure and sign to “calm down”. Many people don’t seem to realize their animals are hunters who engage in brawls with other hunters and prey. Animals across the board seem to like a measure of rough touch. Not cruel, not that can hurt - like a whip or hitting a horse in the nose with fist (which I’ve seen and they don’t like that) - but a good hard patting and rubbing stimulates. And it builds trust bonds because the animal understands very quickly that you provide stimulus without risk of harm.

Our little old dog is now hard of hearing. Seems no matter how hard I try to give her a “heads up” she gets startled when I touch her. Must be all those unintentional smacks we have given her.

@bogi That video was hilarious! I watched Part 2 as well!

Cats are so aloof and egocentric.
