I know. Another one. Which out of these Texas colleges would be best for pre-med?

My Stats (in state) are:

GPA: 3.4893 UW/4.35 W (There is strong upward grade trends here, as my gpa freshman year was 3.0w/3.8uw)

Rank: 13.5%

SAT: 1310 670 Math 640 Reading

15 AP Classes (5 science and 2 math)

Very strong, glowing hot letter of rec

A good essay in which I outlined how I overcame a struggle (house fire sophomore year)

Officer position at a current events and politics club (we also conduct voter registration in the school and community) Junior-senior year

Member at key club and docs club sophomore-junior year (yea my ec’s are weak)

AP Scholar with distinction

I’ve heard different things on whether this helps or hurts for big colleges: ability to afford tuition (parents make 200k/year)

What might not help: White Male

Your SAT score and GPA does not bode well for a premed.

I don’t see how you’d get into UT anyway and you may not get into TAMU. But either way, don’t go to a school like these two because the successful premeds there will likely have higher stats than you have.

So, if you want a “fighting chance” to become a doctor, then go to Texas Tech or some other “good school” where your stats are considered to be high.

If becoming a doctor is a real dream for you and not just some romantic fantasy, then don’t go to a school like UT or TAMU. Go where your premed classmates will be similar or weaker than you are.
