I Love Scarves!

I always find myself attracted to the printed scarves that they sell in museum gift shops but the only people I ever see actially wearing them are dowdy older women with very little style. Therefore, I resist buying them even though I like them.

For example, the Huntington Library gift shop has all of these gorgeous William Morris print scarves. Here’s an example:

Here’s another example of a scarf I liked in a museum gift shop but passed on:

What do folks think of the museum gift store scarf? Dowdy or stylish? Sometimes the ones I like are much more ethnic looking – like Indonesian batik or something. Can’t think of an example of those of the top of my head.

Here are examples of the more ethnic type of museum scarves I often like. Again, question is: dowdy or stylish?

Stylish.

Oooh, I have many, many scarves. They have become my souvenir gift to myself when I travel. I should probably hang them up somewhere so I can see them and use them more often, but I don’t have closet space to do so (old 60s rabbit warren house). I went out yesterday without one and missed it when I was walking several miles in 18 degree weather!

Those are gorgeous and I wouldn’t hesitate buying them. I love the one with the burnt Orange. It really doesn’t matter the pattern so much because it’s all scrunched up, twisted, etc. I don’t think they look dowdy at all!

I think those are stylish.
I also love scarves. I’m at the age where I get hot easily so I don’t like shirts or sweaters near my neck. Scarves are perfect for temperature regulation. Tighten, loosen, take it off if needed.

Do you have a signature style- a certain type of top, shirt, blouse, sweater, that you enhance with a scarf?

Solid colored tops and dresses seem the most versatile with scarves.

I brought two scarves to niece’s recent wedding. When to my astonishment, MOB and I had identical dresses (except hers was sequined while mine was plain (but identical color AND style), I wore a scarf over the top of mine mine so they looked quite different for the reception. I think it made MOB happy that we looked more distinct and the dresses more different.

I tucked the other wrap around my mom, who was cold with the air conditioning at the reception.

I do not have a ton of scarves… just a dozen or so Nordstrom tissue weight pashminas and a few other ones that have a special meaning. Some of them are “collector items” by now. Like this one (no, I did not get it in 1984! ) :

Or this one (only in reddish hues):

I wear my scarves for warmth and to add a splash of color to my black, navy, and beige outfits.
