First Gen in the country is not the same as First Gen in college. The latter can be a bump at many colleges. It may still apply to you but no way to know based on your statement.
Elite private schools can offer good financial aid, but it’s far from guaranteed. Even the net price calculator is only a rough estimate and is far from a guaranteed amount. You can’t depend on a private schools financial aid generosity.
If you’re low income, I would highly recommend a scholarship. That’s financial aid you can count on. Check out University of Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, and Miss State. They offer the most generous out of state scholarships as far as I know. With a 4.0 and an ACT score of 34, TCU offers a university guaranteed full tuition scholarship.
@“Erin’s Dad” Good catch regarding first gen.
Hello, I wrote all that down in a hurry, and I’m clearing this up. I am an only child by the way, and my parents did not finish university in Guatemala due to immigrating here in the US, I do however have aunts, uncles and cousins (the ones who live in Guatemala) who have graduated university in Guatemala , and some cousins who were born in the US who have only done community college but never has there been one that has went to a four year college or university nor one who has had a bachelors degree. I don’t know if that still means I’m still first gen…I was under the impression that you had to have had no one in your family go to a four year university or have a bachelors degree in order to be one but I’m not sure what universities would count as “first generation”.
You are first generation because your parents do not have university degrees.
I think you will have good choices. First gen, URM, low income, excellent grades and course rigor. Did you look at the Questbridge website?
Except at any US colleges that may consider starting college.
Post 23 is one reason I suggest OP learn more about the basics of admissions. There are terms and policies. And top colleges which give generous aid like to see the initiative to get a clearer understanding.
Hello, sorry I’m just now seeing this and yes I actually kind of looked into it a bit but I’m a bit confused about the process, could you explain things like when I have to apply, If I need any specific things etc.?
You mean Questbridge? You have to read the website. It’s all explained there.
