No, you won’t get into a good college with that mentality. Plenty of people get accepted into their dream schools without having attended “prestigious” summer programs. Also, read this.

Doesn’t your school have counselors? Do you have relatives that went to college? Do you know any seniors graduating this year?

You should do what you will enjoy or benefit from educationally/personal-developmentally. The goal is never to participate in a program for the purpose of impressing adcoms. That’s the sort of attitude they do not want to see. I seriously doubt, for example, that you would clean out septic tanks if I named that.

Frankly, what you need to do is:
- Commit to a field of interest.
- Personally, I’d just do the community college course and volunteer the rest of the time, but if you want an internship, contact area businesses in your field of choice.
- If you are not accepted, then do some research about the college process on your own. CC is a good place to start–but make sure to use the “search” function and read old threads before asking the same questions!
