Have you considered studying at a language school abroad? Last summer I studied French for a month in Amboise, France at a Eurocentres school (www.eurocentres.com) and had a great time. Plus, it allowed me to skip 4th year French (actually I arranged with my high school to grant me independent study credit for my study abroad) and take AP French this year. :D

This option is appropriate only if you’re very comfortable traveling independently, however. I had never traveled alone, but I had traveled around the world (Europe, Latin America) with my family, and my mother accompanied me over to France. I was on my own for the four weeks, an additional week at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and the flight home, however. I lived with a host family while I studied at the school, and there were a few other Americans at the school–and I was okay with that. The only distressing thing was that I received bad news from home while I was over there, and it was kind of lonely to have to deal with it by myself (except for email and a couple phone conversations with my parents).

If you want a program that caters specifically to groups of American teenagers, then this (at least, this particular program) isn’t for you.
