There is nothing wrong with community colleges: if you have to go to one because of financial reasons, personal reasons, to be close to your family, because you have to work full time, or whatever other reason, then you gotta do what you gotta do and I respect you for getting an education.</p>
<p>But when you’re arrogant and consider a school like Rice to be a ‘safety’, then you obviously would consider a community college to be complete dirt. And since that’s exactly where this person might end up, he’s not going to have a very good time coming to terms with the fact that he has to go there once he gets rejected everywhere else. </p>
<p>Again, nothing against community colleges. They are obviously not as good as schools like Rice, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do and if a CC is the only way you can get an education, I have no less respect for you than for someone who goes to Oxford. I know I’m fortunate to be able to afford Rice (because of financial aid and merit scholarships); if it weren’t for my Fin Aid, I would probably be at a CC (or a state school if they gave me enough aid).</p>
