Ice bucket challenge

I hear where abasket is coming from even though personalitywise, I’m close to PG in regarding the ice bucket challenge as “come join the fun” request one’s free to join in or not.

However, unlike PG, my fellow NTJ…I do understand not everyone can be as detached or ignore popular pressure from the peanut galleries in one’s life. A reason why I extend full sympathies and support to abasket rather than tell her to “get over it”.

Personally, the challenge looks fun from seeing friends and celebrities do it though I also respect Patrick Stewart’s classy video which didn’t fully buy into the whole fad:

Aw, c’mon Jym626…you know you want to. :D

Also, I’m betting plenty of folks would love to have a picture/video of Pizzagirl dumping a bucket of ice/ice water on her head…especially if she’s wearing high end designer handbag, designer corporate-wear, and a t-shirt with her sorority’s letters. :D

I’ve seen lots of friends the last few days not doing it and posting about other charities.

No venom towards them though. I’m glad of that!

@actingmt-I said this in a previous post and I realize that most people won’t read all the replies in this thread so I understand why anyone missed my response. I am passionate about this particular organization because I lost my mother to ALS 10 years ago and my aunt a couple of months ago. ALSA.org is a great, 4 star rated charity. They are incredibly careful with the money they raise. It does not matter if this is a “drop in the bucket” in terms of money needed for research. There is a huge need for $$ to help families with family members suffering from this most horrendous of diseases. Imagine your loved one literally wasting away before your eyes. Ability to use the limbs goes, speech goes, everything eventually goes and if the person manages to live for a while, they are left with the use of their eye muscles. There is ZERO hope of survival.

The help offered by the local and regional offices can come in the form of assistive devices such as computers which operate through the use of “eye blink” technology. There are special wheelchairs and special computers to “speak” for people with ALS. The $70+ million dollars which has been raised in the past month compares to $2+ million dollars raised last year during that time. This money is HUGE and will really help families.

One of my friends posted a great video (IMO) it addressed people’s aversion for reasons of wasting water , so she challenged people to donate a case of water to our local rescue mission in Atlantic City. Two casinos will be closing in the next 10 days leaving 8000 in our area unemployed

How does donating a case of water someplace address concerns with wasting water?

Thanks @cobrat for your response and being insightful to see both sides. :)

I too have seen many concerns about the wasting of water. I sort of get that point though it seems a little extreme, but I’ll respect that thought. In fact, when I did my video to fulfill my ice bucket challenge which I only forwarded to my co-worker who put me up, I held a glass with cucumber slices in it and addressed the fact that instead of fully wasting the water, I was going to drink and enjoy some cucumber water as it dripped down and into my glass - and that I did, sipping on it as the ice cold water and ice fell upon me!

Sounds like lje’s friend was encouraging people to donate water and donate $$ to ALS instead of dumping it on their head.

Wow, this ice bucket challenge has gone viral. My son decided to do it in a public place while we were in Thailand. One Thai person and one British person both pointed and said “Ice bucket challenge?” Talk about viral gone global!

" How does donating a case of water someplace address concerns with wasting water? "

It doesn’t necessarily, it was meant to draw attention to another cause , near and dear to our area. Our area is days away from a huge surge of people losing their jobs and some people are deciding to focus on charitable contributions in general…some people want to donate goods and services to local non-profits and agencies. This one in particular will be in greater need that normal.

I admire her for bringing attention to our own community as well . This is a woman whose plate is always filled with community service for many causes
