Rice doesn’t get too many applicants from my neck of the woods. Everyone up here in New England is after Ivy League. They don’t even look beyond New York… it’s kind of sad how a lot of people haven’t even heard of chicago and rice O_O

ahhh, truer words were never spoken…

not to be racist, but i’ve heard a rumor both on-campus and off that rice is actually trying to raise their caucasian enrollment. can anybody verify this? has anybody heard this?

bleh, I didn’t think we should. We can save the “stats” for the accepted/deferred/rejected threads to help out future applicants, but here, we’re people not numbers :D

I don’t think ANY top 25 school will ever try to raise Caucasian (or Asian for that matter) enrollment.

my friend (sophomore at rice) told me it had to do with the new president - allegedly he wants to even the demographics to represent those of the united states, in proportion -> thus, since the US is still predominantly white…

either way, i left the section on my common blank, regarding my ethnicity, ssn, etc. they dont need that information to decide, and it wouldnt help me anyways, being a white male.

hahah yes! thats good for me… i am white from rural virginia lol

I think any university wants student population that is at least somewhat representative of the US’s population. The only thing I know for certain about Rice’s demographics is that per the Rice charter, 50% of the student body must be from Texas.

Are you sure about that, Cavelier? Could you link me to where you found that info? That’s the first that I’ve heard of it. And Rice is decidedly NOT trying to raise their caucasian enrollment.

I do not know about caucasian enrollment, but we heard it from Julia Browning that 50% come from texas and half of that come from Houston metro.
