I guess it’s handy for D that she’s always looked really young and they figured she was even younger than she is. She forgot her purse and had no trouble clearing TSA when she was 21 as well. We rushed back to bring her purse and ID to her, especially since her keys and wallet were also in said purse.

I always think its a good idea for teens and young adults to have govt-issued IDs. You never know who will be in TSA.

Our kids just got back from a school trip and several kids used their school ID with no issues at all. It is a photo ID. These were kids that were under 16 so they didn’t have a driver’s license yet. It may have been a case where they needed to match a name/photo with the ticket because of the group size though?? I agree that a state ID is probably best and may be needed for other things as well.

I had the same worry for my DD’s trip next week as her passport expired last year and we do not want her to renew until 18. I took her to SOS last month and apply for state id instead. It arrived within 2 weeks here in MI.
