Here’s an example of how to make a t-shirt quilt.
I’m sure there are other examples available as well. It really looks a lot easier than I thought it would be. I may make one, just for the heck of it, as I have a TON of tshirts – mine, H’s and the kids. Will have to think about this before blithely tossing all of them. You don’t HAVE to use the iron-on stabilizer, but I’m sure it helps reduce stretching out.

My SIL made both her kids tshirt quilts. She’s handy but not Martha Stuart. If you have the time, patience, space, and can sew relatively well, it’s doable. They turned out great! My moms a quilter and made quilts for the boys with borders in their university colors. In each corner she embroidered a set of eyes so they would know Mimi was always watching them. how hysterical is that?!? I doubt if that’s ever been pointed out to a gf, lol! My moms one of a kind.

The point about smartphones connecting to cloud docs is a great example. S2 keeps a lot of things in Dropbox which has an app, so he can always access things even if his laptop isn’t with him, or he doesn’t want to drag it out. Shoot, his university has an app that shows where the busses are in real time.

How about a bike? There are some really cute colored bikes, “cruising bikes” with no gears, and commuter bikes with some gears. Both types are sturdy.

A bike could come in handy, depending on what her campus is like.

If you buy her a bike, get her a really good lock to go with it and make sure she uses it… every campus paper we pick up on visiting has bike theft and laptop theft as the top crimes on campus. :(

My mom got me a Pandora bracelet, on it she put a breast cancer charm, a graduation cap charm and a family charm
