Idiots Bank on Harvard

For once, Byerly, you had me laughing. However, I must point out that we’re talking about HYP here - they all attract the best applicants, and they all have high yield.

I’m sure we all read the PR criteria from the link. I’ve seen that list many times before, and I bet everyone else here has, too.

If the difference in selectivity is that slight, then why consider it? It’s quite an accomplishment to get into any of those top 5 schools on that list… there’s no point in arguing over whether MIT/Harvard/etc is more difficult to get into. And then, kids pick the colleges they go to for different reasons - MIT’s and Caltech’s engineering/tech students are probably more qualified than Harvard’s, and therefore they are more selective in that sense, but HYP beat them out in other areas. Big deal.

I don’t really agree with Byerly’s quantified take because basing an idea solely on SAT scores really doesn’t count for much.

If not SAT scores, Kates, then WHAT? Number of NMS winners? Intel winners? NAS winners? USAToday “First Team”? Or based on stats at the other end of the pipeline, like Rhodes or Marshall scholarship winners?

And how are you measuring the “qualifications” of engineering students to support your claim on behalf of MIT/Caltech?? The average GRE analytical score might be a good measure, mais non? Check it out.

yes of course that’s it, everything relates to summers and his evil anti-feminist agenda and the lack of tenured female professors.

Are more backslashes necessary to ward of particularly evil spirit's associated with my perverse posting\\'s?

LOL!!! yes, all of your posts just eminate oppression

Hmmm… I hadn't realized it was so obvious to other's.

You can all slice the pie any which way you want to, but in the end, Harvard is still the #1 university in the world in terms of prestige, which is really all that matters. EVERY educated international knows about Harvard University(and even some uneducated ones) because its the only one thats really ever commercialized, besides MIT to some extent. However, not many internationals know about Princeton or Yale, and BASICALLY no one knows about Darthmouth or Cornell outside the US. Furthermore, in basically every movie produced in this country, all the the intellectuals come or are aspiring to go to Harvard University. There’s just no way around it; Harvard is a stereotype and an anachronism that just keeps persisting through all the biased PR rankings, the lack of undergraduate attention allegations, and the brash Larry Summers remarks. Statistics can fluctuate and numbers can change, but the one constant will always be the perception of Harvard as the number one educational institution in hte world.

PS: HAHA, I should call this an “Ode to Byerly”.

pleaseeee tell me what the goddman slashes are about
I have two theories

1) You are secretly doing some kind of social sciences experiment and are wondering if the people on this board will adapt to your insane punctuation… not likely
2) You’re just ■■■■■■■■… likely

it could be a finger twitch, and totally accidental.

I doubt it, given the location of the backslash key on most keyboards.

I continue to suspect that we are seeing a subliminal, “non-feminist-feminist message” from ashligee to other members of the sect.

Byerly-why are you so sensitive about very very slight distinctions in Harvard’s selectivity? When you were accepted decades ago, they admited a much higher percent than they do now-chances are you wouldnt have gotten in today. Why do you care?

Oh, and listen: when you go to Bulldog Days, don’t try walking from the train station.

You’d be risking life and limb, and might never survive to join an a capella group!

damn Byerly… you are very very angry over people that try to say anything about Harvard huh? So Obsessive… Got any kids? Wife? Family? Do you push your son super hard so he can be a Harvard student?

…and when you have nothing substantive to say- no valid response- you attack me and, of course, Yale. i dont think any current harvard student I know cares about his/her being a student at the 5th (gasp!) most “selective” college. i at least dont pick a college based on its selectivity. hopefully, those people that choose to go to harvard choose to do so for the right reasons, despite what you are making me think.

and might i add that it was a sorry attack at that. does the truth hurt?

Byerly why are you so obsessed with Harvard and its superiority? Also, I believe you, but where do you get the data about cross admits to harvard/yale/princeton?

if i got into harvard i would turn it down hah i don’t think it’s a good school for undergrad

but luckily i’m not going to get in

yeah, byerly is always bragging about the cross admits but I havent seen any substantive numbers

show me the numbers byerly

apparently he has his “sources”

the voices in his head
