If any place can get young minds to unplug, it's a college sitting on an arboretum

Swat has a reputation for intensity – typically one of the most intense schools in the nation. It has had that reputation for a long time – I have adult cousins who went there, and they sure think it did. They still are a couple of the most intellectual and intense people I know, too. We did not see anything different on our visits to campus (including accepted student weekends). My kid didn’t turn Swat down due to the intensity – in fact, she applied BECAUSE of it, and is at one of the other colleges in the US that usually turns up on those intensity “short lists”. Swat has a beautiful campus, no doubt about it. But you just really can’t say that the average Swat student has a lot of time to relax during the semester. These forums don’t just belong to parents and students who chose to attend a given school, either. I don’t watch the Swat forum specifically, but if something comes up on latest posts, there is no reason not to read it or post.
