If I get accepted in both ED1 and ED2 choice, do I get to choose?

I think you have to check the rules for ED2 for the NYU program very carefully as well as the Stanford EA policies. Though you are permitted to apply to other schools when you apply SCEA for Stanford, I think there is a stipulation that you cannot also apply under any binding ED conditions as well as no other EA conditions. Only state schools, rolling admissions and regular admissions. That is my understanding with the Stanford SCEA policies.

I have not read the NYU ED rules, or ED2 rules for most colleges, but every ED school that I know of stipulates that you go there if accepted unless the financial aid package cannot be worked out with that school to make it affordable for you to go there. I’ve known many kids who applied EA, were accepted to those schools and then applied ED2 somewhere, and upon acceptance had to go there and turn down the EA offers. This has caused some major problems because sometimes the EA schools will come up with merit offers that one can compare with the ED aid/merit packages and the EA packages are much better, but EFC/need dictates that according to the contract signed, the student is supposed to commit to the ED school. That’s where I have seen some heavy duty finnagling to get out, and it really is not ethical and is a breach of the ED contract signed.
