To add: if visiting Cambridge another hidden gem, a 15 minute train ride away, is Ely. There’s also an American WW2 cemetery near Cambridge at Madingley, if that is of interest - a sobering experience.

I’m biased because my son went there, but the chapel at Worcester College is amazing as are their gardens. I really enjoyed Evensong there as well. I joked with my wife that the sermon we heard there from the College Chaplain was much better than our Rector’s usual fare.
Hidden gem: Leighton House.
I got a graduate degree at Cambridge, and met my husband there. We were at Queens’ College (cough, note the placement of the apostrophe).

If you are going mid July to late September (when the King is at Balmoral) you can purchase tickets to go inside Buckingham Palace (obviously only selected rooms). We were able to do this when we took D to London for her study abroad several years ago. The palace is not open to the public most of the year.
As with any major attraction, I recommend buying tickets in advance.

We went to Evensong at Kings College, Cambridge a few months ago. It was magical.

If you are there in the evening, and there is a performance at the Royal Albert Hall, go. There is also a “behind the scenes tour” if you are interested in that sort of thing. We loved it.
There is almost always some musical event in London in the evening, and they are all great. My DS spent a semester abroad at the Royal College of Music, and took in many of the sites mentioned here.
We visited for ten days and honestly didn’t even touch the tip of the iceberg.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned visiting Harrods. That is an experience unlike any other “department store” I’ve ever seen.

Maybe a half day bus tour and if I had to pick one stop it would be the Tower of London. So many great options though.

There is so much to see in London. Even if you only see some of the sites, you will have a wonderful time. Find a pub and have fish and chips. Best I’ve ever had anywhere!
