For “true” fast food I’d pick a cheeseburger happy meal with diet coke at McDonalds. Yum! (That used to be enough for an adult before American portion sizes got so obnoxiously out of control.) 530 calories

All the other places listed above are delicious and I love them. However, I agree that most of them are considered “fast casual.” To me, fast food comes in disposable packaging. If a restaurant offers real dishes and utinsels, it ain’t fast food. ;)

I like Panera, too, but I also don’t think it’s “fast” enough. It can take quite a while to eat there at peak times. I think Wendy’s is a good choice over Burger King or McDonald’s. Another possibility–if you are near a shopping mall, you can eat in the food court–there will often be lots of choices, including salads, various Asian foods, etc. Remember that Chick-Fil-A is closed on Sunday.

If you are going to a place away from urban centers, where Panera and these other upscale places aren’t available (or if you’re going with people who wouldn’t dream of paying more than McD’s prices), then get a burger and only eat 1/2 the bun, get a burger with lettuce and tomato and onion if it’s available, ask for it sauce-free, skip the fries, purchase whatever other healthy items they have, like the yogurt, and have fun!

BTW I’ve eaten McD’s salads for breakfast - yum!

Five Guy Burgers and Fries? Free toppings and lots of them so you can get a small burger (1 patty) and choose from toppings like lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, peppers, pickles, onions, etc…if I’m getting a burger than this is the place - the fries are awesome as well - get one order and share amongst you all.

Taco Bell all the way. The standard bean burrito is 370 calories, lots of fiber, cheap, and a warm treat on a cold evening. The fresca menu, with more options, is also lower cal.

Old Fort, I agree on KFC. I had not had them in years, but so, so good. On occasion, while traveling, I’ve gotten a single chicken breast, which is sufficient protein to keep sated for a long while. In China a few years ago, I was taken to KFC for a beijing duck style chicken wrap. All the rage that year, and very yummy.

Lol, I had lunch at 5 Guys yesterday (going away for someone on our work team). A “little” burger and a regular fry. I won’t need to eat again for a week… I made sure I exercised extra yesterday just to try to offset it a little. But no way is it a healthy option, even with veggies on the burger.

I always get a Double-Double with fries. Nothng particularly low-cal or healthy about it - it’s a burger place after all. One of the great benefits of living in Southern California is having plenty of In-N-Out around.

You can make any place “not too bad” by just eating less - don’t eat the fries, don’t get the drink, take off the bun, etc.

If it’s just going to be once or twice out, I wouldn’t worry about it - make a decent choice, make it something you’ll enjoy eating and let it go.

If you are stuck with MCD’s, they have chicken wraps that are pretty good. Order them grilled, not crispy (aka fried), and you’ll save a decent amount of calories. If you order a kids meal you can ask for apple slices instead of the fries.
Chick-Fil-A has wraps with grilled chicken. The dressing is on the side so you can control that part. They have good grilled chicken sandwiches, fresh fruit, and a variety of salads with grilled chicken. Their website has a nutritional calculator where you can plan a meal and see calorie, fat content, etc.

Pizza, but only once. Too much bread, I would have to scrape top if I had to eat it all the time. I also hate any meat on my pizza. I cannot eat anything else, I always get food poisonning, I rather be starving.

Subway–small 8" sub on whole wheat–veggie option (no cheese) or turkey option. You can add all sorts of veggies–lettuce, spinach, tomato, peppers, onions, broccoli, etc. Total points on Weight Watchers for veggie sandwich is 4 and turkey is 5.

Speaking of WW, I remember when I was doing it back in the day that if you really wanted a burger the best bargain, points-wise, was a mustard burger from Sonic. Also, the Chick-fil-A sandwich was a pretty good deal. You can ask for it with no butter on the bun.

I can’t believe all the recommendations of Chipotle. It’s good and everything, but hardly lo-cal. I did the calorie count on the last burrito I ordered there and it was well over 1000 calories.

My occasional fast food indulgences are a Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich. That’s 460 calories which is at the upper end of my lunch allocation, so I have it without a side and with a no-cal drink (like water or unsweet tea). I also have an Italian sub from the local pizza joint for dinner from time to time. That’s 1000+ calories and a massive carb load from the bread. That’s at the upper end of my dinner allotment, so I have to try to pair it with a low cal lunch. The carb load is, according to the latest fitness thinking, a good thing once a week for dieters. It prevents the body from going into an anti-weight loss reduced metaboism mode. I don’t know.

I had to do breakfast on the run yesterday, so I had a third indulgence – a Mickey D’s Bacon, Egg, and Cheese biscut. That’s about every fattening food group in one package. 440 calories. But, I paired it with a grilled chicken caesar salad for dinner and came in under 1700 calories for the day.

Actually, any white meat chicken option would be a decent plan for a fast food. A fried chicken breast at Bojangles or KFC is under 400 calories. The grilled variations are under 300.
