It isn’t a rumor - it is directly from the USMA admissions web site.

Those who went to SLS would be among the first group to get DoDMERB info - they started their application sooner and are a pretty highly qualified group.

This is the deal:
Physicals cost money - USMA is not going to spend money on someone who is not “competitive”.

USMA will start issuing LOA’s to very highly qualified candidates very soon - even before the 2nd Step Application goes out. They will get their DoDMERB physicals first, because obviously they have to be medically qualified to get that appointment. These are the kids that USMA wants to woo away from Ivy’s and other highly selective schools. Their version of early admission.

Now, an admissions officer told my daughter a “dirty little secret” two years ago. Apply for an AROTC scholarship. Once Cadet command has your application and transcripts they will send your name to DoDMERB and you can get your physical done quicker. Or you can hang out and wait until the Fall. DoDMERB gets very busy in the fall and winter and remedials and waivers can take a very long time.
