Illinois Commitment: free tuition/fees for qualifying instate students

@ucbalumnus-this program is a huge initiative, especially for UIUC and in Illinois…you seem to be complaining that it’s not enough…well, let’s see…that would be socialism. “Middle class” families include those making way more than the threshold for this new program, and it’s a sacrifice to send a child to UIUC - at our first admissions event, the very first thing the presenter said was, “…we’re not giving you any money.” OK. Clear on that expectation. Yes, it’s a burden to pay the bills to the Illinois flagship, and as a UIUC parent, its really encouraging to see progress in UIUC’s array of attempts to pull back on that burden. 88jm19 (hi!) makes an excellent point about our truth-in-tuition law and the tuition freeze we’ve enjoyed for the last 4 years or so…at MOST, our family faces a single tuition increase between my children, even though they’re years apart in age. No complaints, there.
