I’ll check out both of those schools. Is there a southern vibe to W&M or Wake? I’m open to that. Just wondering. The size seems good and I looked online about the size of the towns and they look like just what I want as far as town and size. Thanks!
I think Duke and Rice may be a far reach for me… I’m def going to apply to Vandy(reach) not sure I want to add too many of those really hard schools to get into on my list. I would rather have several schools to choose from than get rejected from several. Is that a good way to approach it? I mean I think I am smart but I know there are MANY more people smarter than me. I just think I would rather be a big fish rather than a small fish in the sea. It will increase my confidence.
We visited WF twice but have not seen W&M. To me if felt a little preppy but not particularly southern. We are also from the NE.
Vandy will also be a reach for you. My D was waitlisted with higher test scores/GPA from the same general geographic area- but of course this does not mean you won’t get In. You might… V used to take students from our HS every year, but for the past 3 years they have not.
You sound very realistic and grounded. Your approach to not load up on reaches so that you have choices is a very good one. Being a big fish is also a good strategy and one that many want.
The U of S Carolina has an excellent honors program. My family member goes there and loves it. She originally wanted to attend Duke but did not get in.
Univ of South Carolina is sooooooo big. Does being in the Honors College make a big campus seem small? Also, I worry about the “politics” there… Please don’t jump all over me about that remark. I just get very offended when people are racist in any way and well, South Carolina flew that Confederate Flag proudly on top of their State House until very recently…
My family member is very liberal and she feels comfortable there. She has not witnessed racism on campus and if she did, she is not the type to ignore it. My guess is that the honors college would make a big campus seem smaller.
How about Richmond or Villanova? The are both “pretty” suburban as opposed to Tufts & Emory which are “gritty” suburban
Boston College(on outskirts of city.
.not urban at all), Miami of Ohio, U of Miami (Florida…it’s in a suburb). Agree with Wake Forest.
