I'm watching the NBA Finals and I'm thinking

dstark, the problem is that you’re watching the NBA finals instead of the Stanley Cup Finals. Game 7, Friday night. Go Pens! :)

You know alwaysamom, you might be right. I used to love ice hockey. Maybe, I’ll watch that final game. :)

There you go! I’m hoping for a good game 7. It’s been, mostly, a very exciting series so far and during last night’s game, I had to leave the room for the final five minutes. The son of family friends is playing and it was just too much excitement for me. Each team has won the games on their home ice so we’re hoping that Pittsburgh breaks that trend on Friday night and has some luck in Detroit!

Yeah, sure. Explain that to Ben Johnson, Tim Montgomery, and Justin Gatlin each whom held the world record in the 100 meters and the title “Worlds Fastest Human” up until the time they each got busted for steroids and had their medals and world records stripped.

The 100 meters is movement in one direction. Basketball is different where you have to dart in different directions.

Take a look at a running shoe and a basketball shoe. Running shoes are far lighter and they’re optimized for basically running forward. Running shoes typically have a lot of mesh in them or other light materials that won’t hold up to the twisting and lateral forces that you get with basketball.

That doesn’t have anything to do with saying steroids won’t improve quickness as well as straight-ahead speed. Fast-twitch is fast-twitch.

Alwaysamom, thanks for the heads up. Great game. I would have missed it if you didn’t mention it.

I was watching a bit of it too - not too bad.

dstark, glad you enjoyed! We are celebrating here, as the son of friends is on the Pens. What an exciting night! We’re so happy for them. :)

Yeah…the Stanley Cup series was awesome! Pens held on by the skin of their teeth. Unbelievably exciting!

I’m a bball fan from way back, but…this final is a big yawn. I can barely sit through it. Did they ever hear of d-e-f-e-n-s-e in the NBA? (Sorry havent read this thread) Kobe’s great but Kobe going one on one seemingly every time he touches the ball, shooting anything up even if it’s not a shot…as great as he is, it’s almost predictable that he’s going to attempt some kind of shot (yes, a lot of them do go in).

Steroids could give a basketball player a huge advantage. Makes him stronger, faster, jump higher, push opponents around under the basket. To suggest that steroids would not help a basketball player is incredibly naive. Marbury is another one I look at and see steroids. Look at the size of his head!

Now, having made these slanderous and baseless accusations I must backpedal: I was reviewing a 100 page montage of NBA players and their tatoos and one of the players was listed as having finished a 2 year suspension for violating the league’s drug policy. So the NBA must have some testing at some level with consequences.

Yep that was probably the birdman Anderson. And, indeed they do have a testing policy.
