Impact of Grades

Do you plan to repeat the semester in which you received the D?

If not, then your D will be included in your UC GPA which only uses 10-11th grades in their GPA calculation.

Getting all A’s in your other classes is great but depending upon which History course you received the D, you will not get credit for that semester and the UC’s have minimum a-g course requirements that you have to met at time of application. For the majority of the UC’s, meeting the minimum is usually not sufficient for admission.

The minimum UC History requirement:
Two years of history, including:

  • one year of world or European history, cultures and geography (may be a single yearlong course or two one-semester courses), and
  • one year of U.S. history or one-half year of U.S. history and one-half year of civics or American government

No, one D will not keep you from applying and possibly attending a UC, but it will impact your chances unless you repeat the semester.
