are any of the college of biological science majors impacted, like NPB or cell bio?

oh and is the physics 7 series calc-based? does davis offer an alg/trig-based series?

Regardless if you’re going to be NPB or Cell Biology, you’ll need to take Calculus.

Impacted? We won’t know how difficult any programs at UC Davis will be to gain admissions until we receive and start to review the application. The majors in the College of Biological Sciences are typically competitive. I wouldn’t call any of our majors impacted since our admissions practices keep our majors from being impacted.

thanks for the answers

i know that for the majors i’ll need calc anyways, but i was wondering if the physics series was calc-based?

well physics is kind of based on calculus…

but physics 7 says you need at least math 16a, which is “short calculus” in the reg. guide.

so i assume there’s no alg/trig-based physics at davis? similar to APB physics?

There is 1A, 1B I believe. Scroll down below Astronomy.

[UC Davis General Catalog | Astronomy (AST) & Physics (PHY) Courses](http://registrar.ucdavis.edu/UCDWebCatalog/programs/PHY/PHYcourses.html)

It says you need calculus, but physics 7 is trig-based. Watch out, because it looks like Davis is the only UC that allows trig-based physics for science majors. I’m finding is out the hard way, now that I am applying for a second bachelor’s and you might have trouble if you apply for grad school.

Long-story short: you may want to consider taking the physics 9 series anyways.

but i believe that med schools are ok with trig-based or calc-based
could someone verify this fact?

Medical schools tend to want one year of non-remedial Physics. Most pre-med students end up taking the 7-series, and engineers the 9-series.
