<p>I beg to disagree with niceilike.The two URMs from our school that applied to MIT EA had SATs in the mid 2300s One was accepted and the other one deferred. That 1900 SAT business is mostly anecdotical.</p>

What type of school do you go to and what kind of neighborhood? Because that might be part of the equation about those minorities that you brought up.</p>

<p>The competition for the “Hispanic spots” is going to be the other Hispanic students, not the rest of the students. There are thousands of very well qualified Hispanics all over the US.</p>
<p>Once again, I will agree with everybody things are more situational and your school may be 80% hispanic, but its suburban. Does your school send students to top schools usually?</p>

<p>its the school and the neighborhood, thats why they did well. But once again im going say it depends on situations. There may be people who are not minorities but reach their potential because of their situations.</p>
<p>J’adoube- obviously if they had 2300 sat they deserve to get in and i have no problem whatsoever with that. all i’m saying is that there are enough instances where that is not the case.</p>

<p>I think the problem starts when you have those stats, are “middle class” (in other words you don’t qualify for financial aid), and are presented with a $50,000/year bill. You made it in but can’t go. Then they go down to the next one on the list, same thing happens, and so on and so forth. I personally know of one student accepted to Columbia that now attends flagship state university because of financial reasons (free vs $50,000)</p>
