Everyone who’s applying, look at this. I actually attended the session online and it helped me understand the admissions process. I could explain some of it but I don’t really feel like it haha. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpV0VsO6LH0&feature=youtu.be
33 days left till may 15th…through all of march i wasn’t even thinking about imsa but now all of a sudden i think about it often- weird
i can’t believe this thread has been going on since sept 2014! is everyone dead set on going, or is anyone hesitant, and thinking that even if they are accepted, they might stay at their home school?
Thanks for the info in the link! @ptvnicorn ik March flew by for me but now I keep thinking about imsa. Ik if I get in i will join. @yeldarb1
@SwagLeaderZ is the IMSA wifi restricted? Like… can you go on facebook or twitter through your latop or not? Or watch a movie on putlocker?
I will DEFINITELY go if I am accepted… I’ve been wanting this for too long not to go. If I do and I end up hating it then I might just decide not to come back for junior year, but that’s HIGHLY unlikely. If I’m admitted IMSA will likely be my home for the next 3 years. @yeldarb
@priyaluvsbooks The wifi is restricted in that you can only use your laptop with it (no phones allowed on the system for security reasons), and it shuts off late at night. They don’t block any sites, but they REALLY step down hard on torrenting, hacking, illegal downloading and the like. (I have no idea if putlocker counts for that, but you can always ask.) A couple of kids have gotten in pretty big trouble in the past, but nothing while I’ve been here.
The tech team’s basic policy is that they’ll respect your privacy if you respect the rules and security.
so wait, how do you get internet on your phones? @SquadLeaderZ
@ptvnicorn Unfortunately, the only way is through using data.
Of course, most people have their laptops on them at all times anyway, so it doesn’t matter as much as you would think.
whaaattt I can’t go to the internet through my iPad? But at least I could still watch netflix on my laptop
is it more convenient to have the imsa-standard laptops? i’ve heard that some people bring MacBooks, but what would you say is easier to use?
Hey I’m very late to this thread and found it on accident, but I had a question that’s been bothering me, that if I do get in I won’t be able to keep up. Doing all the different programs from steam, to EIP I’m familiar with the academy, but I never asked what is it like with keeping up with classes and excelling at them, thanks for reading and my name Is London like the city.
@yeldarb1 I have the standard, and I love it. It’s cheaper, too; the only reason you really have to use your own computer is if you have software on it that you really don’t want to redownload, or you want something with a bunch more computing power (though I don’t know why you’d need it). Either one has it’s perks, but there’s certainly nothing wrong with the standard.
@londolife welcome! I’m a current IMSA sophomore; if you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I’m not going to lie to you, classes are difficult. But don’t worry, they’re definitely manageable. New students tend to have a bit of trouble with time management and things like that, but that’s why they’ve got study hours.
And besides, if you’re good enough to get accepted, you’ll be fine. It’s a bit of an adjustment, but nothing you can’t handle with time, I promise.
guys, how important is participation in IMSA sponsored programs? I’m taking Bio over the summer, but that means I can’t attend PROMISE SEAMS (if i get in)
Thanks a lot for the info
So, if race does in fact affect admissions, would that help me or hurt me? I’m half Indian and half white, which means I’m technically biracial.
LONDON hey it’s maddi
You’re smart you’ll do fine…their classes are hard but they have so much tutoring and stuff it’s impossible not to do well
Btw “steam” haha what
@londolife
Do seams! It was like the best 10 days ever. Yeah, I missed out on taking summer bio to do it but who cares? Even if you take Chem as a freshman you have to redo it at imsa. Plus, I made so many friends and only had like 3 people who pissed me off throughout the whole thing. Living in dorms is awesome too, and the fries. Oh the fries… so good! It will be one of the best times of your life, so why miss out on it for a class that you’ll inevitably have to take again even if you do get into imsa? AND The evals from the programs do help you get in. @vniatge
does having a sibling already at imsa help you in admissions?
@yeldarb1
it shouldn’t… Who knows whether or not it actually does. They try not to let that influence the decision
(Ok… Before I start speaking, I am in 7th grade and am hoping to apply in 2016)
Hello Guys,
I just had a quick questions
I currently attend Scullen Middle School, and I am in the special Project Arrow program. Project Arrow is 1 grade ahead in all the core classes besides math (2 grades ahead). I think this means that the GPA is a little different (Can someone explain this to me). I have been playing tennis for 6 years, and I attend tournaments. I am an all-star at track & field for my school as well.
Here are my grades for 3 quarters of 7th grade:
First Quarter:
A= Math
A= ELA
B+=Science
C+=Social Studies
Second Quarter:
B+=Math
B+=ELA
B+=Science
B=Social Studies
Third Quarter:
A=Math
B+=ELA
B+=Science
A=Social Studies
I took a SAT test in Januarary (I will have to take another test in October in order to apply for IMSA)
SAT Score: 2300
I attended a district science fair, and moved up to the regional science fair. At the regional science fair, I got an outstanding ribbon (highest type of ribbon there is).
I am a B student, but this is due to the advanced programs I am in.
I have a question… Does IMSA look at 7th grade grades or 8th grade grades?
Thanks,
