Excuse my language but common core is a load of bull
@red42413 Red, I completely agree with you, I wish I could turn time backwards and start a normal homeschool instead of the Common Core public school… this is why I was hoping IMSA would save me … hopefully at least next year…
@floridagators100 The reason I take those classes next year is that my high school allows us to go on our own pace for math so if we finish a entire subject in a week then they’ll allow us to move on. So, I know Algebra II and I’m gonna finish it by December so I have pre-calc
Please do judge my chances
Hey @javascript,what is integrated math III in the normal math curricula.
@YoloSwagMaster Integrated Math I, II, III covers all algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability, statistics and who knows what else three times, every year in more advanced level. So integrated math III is the final step before calculus. The idea of Common Core is to integrate all math areas together so it is supposed to help understanding how to apply all math concepts in real life. Our school agreed to switch to Common Core because as far as I understand the State of Illinois promised to give our school a lot of money to switch to Common Core. So they did switch, but of course did not get the money they were promised… However, students now are stuck with the Integrated math and it is really hard to compare it to the standard math sequence: algebra I, geometry, algebra II, trigonometry… I supposed Integrated math III is equal to 10 grade regular math. Normally Integrated math III is taught to 10-11th graders in this high school, depending how slow students are… I am an 8th grader attending 9th grade math class at this high school.
It is still a big mess…
By the way, the new SAT is redesigned to align with this Common Core…
@rattybatty If I remember correctly, you said you are moving to a D204 school. Then, I would say slightly below decent. However, if you apply from your other school then your chances are great!
@floridagators100 Thanks for the feedback, actually I am not moving to D204 I got into this gifted privated school and no one from there applies to IMSA
@rattybatty Hi I am new to this forum but would like to know the name of this Private gifted high school.
It’s not a private school, it’s payed for by the Illinois government and the name is Illinois Math and Science Academy (IMSA). It’s my dream high school. @Kagero
@Kagero I guess it is either Quest Academy in Palatine, or Science & Art Academy in Des Plaines, or Avery Coonley in Downers Grove. All of them are pretty good, though I don’t see much advantage transferring to IMSA.
@Kagero it’s a 10th-12th grade high school which you have to apply to
I’m pretty sure @Kagero was asking about the private school that @rattybatty is in right now, not IMSA.
Oh oops
Hey, 8th graders, anybody here applying for SEAMS summer program? I did.
I applied for the integrated science program at imsa. its residential and 5 days and free. @javascript
@lsutiger25 I applied for both, they both cost $50 max. SEAMS is 2 weeks residential, integrated science is 1 week residential plus online. Lets stay in touch, would be great to meet in person during summer camp.
One month left until results… are you guys ready?
I’m so nervous! I’m trying to act as though I won’t get in so that I can ease the anticipation, but it’s not really working.
I’ve been really anxious lately about the results, but I’ve been distracting myself enough to survive. I want to get into this school sooooo badly though.
